Strawberries have lots of vitamins, fiber, and high levels of antioxidants called polyphenols. Strawberries are a sodium-free,fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. Excellent source of vitamin C, manganese and potassium (WebMD, 2017). That means they can protect the heart (potassium is good for the heart), lower blood pressure, increases High-density lipoproteins, HDL (good) cholesterol. You can make smoothies from strawberries, add some slices to your cereal, oatmeal, you can also add them to your fruit and vegetable salads and water for a flavored taste. You can increase your good cholesterol by exercising more, eating healthier fats, reducing refined carbohydrates, losing weight and tobacco cessation. Examples of healthy fat sources are avocados, olives and olive oil, salmon; foods high in refined carbohydrates are white bread, pastries, white pasta etc, foods that have been made white by removing the bran from the grain. Other fruits that help in lowering blood pressure are banana, avocado, dates, oranges, blueberries.
